Sailing courses for adults
Our courses are also open to non-members of the Club.
The course will take place in Genoa at the Beppe Croce Sea School over two days, and the full program will be covered in accordance with the World Sailing Special Regulations (formerly ISAF).
It will be taught by Paolo Vianson, a World Sailing trainer, and an instructor and trainer for the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV).
At the end of the course, after passing the test, participants will receive a certification valid for 5 years, which is required to take part in Category 0, 1, and 2 races.
Participants are recommended to bring suitable clothing for the in-water abandon-ship drill (foul-weather gear, boots, and any other appropriate clothing).
During the lunch breaks on Saturday and Sunday, a pasta lunch will be served at the Beppe Croce Sea School.
The cost of the course is €300 all inclusive.
The cost to renew the certification (after 5 years) is €230.
Anyone who wishes to test their own self-inflating life jacket may bring it.

The course aims to equip skippers, racing sailors, and recreational boaters with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to prevent emergencies at sea and manage them calmly and effectively. Through realistic simulations and practical in-water exercises, the course combines compliance with World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations (OSR) with the ability to survive and take command in critical situations.
The course takes place over two days (Saturday and Sunday). The first day is dedicated to classroom-based theory, covering World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations (OSR), equipment failures and breakdown management, emergency planning, and the use of onboard safety equipment. The second day takes place in a swimming pool or at sea, where participants engage in realistic practical exercises while wearing full foul-weather gear, boots, and an inflatable life jacket. These exercises simulate capsizing, boarding a life raft, and managing survival situations aboard it.
The entry requirements are minimal and accessible. The course does not require any particular level of athletic fitness, but good swimming skills are essential. It is open to all recreational sailors, skippers, and racing sailors – from offshore sailing beginners to those simply looking to renew their five-year certification. For the practical in-water session, participants are required to bring their own basic sailing gear: a complete set of foul-weather clothing (jacket and trousers), sailing boots, and their own inflatable life jacket (if available).
The course is designed for professional skippers, offshore racing sailors (mandatory for World Sailing Categories 0, 1, and 2, as well as FIV sailing instructors), and recreational sailors who wish to navigate with greater confidence and safety awareness. It is open both to those undertaking this training for the first time and to those who need to complete the five-year refresher course to renew their certification.
